As part of activities aimed at observing the United Nations World Peace Day, the International Association Of World Peace Advocates IAWPA FCT Chapter has called on all to join in propagating peace and understanding.
The association made this known in a press conference as part of activities aimed at observing the World Peace Day.
The FCT Chapter Coordinator Amb. Sunday Lawal who spoke with journalists said it is imperative that everyone has a voice in the pursuit of peace.
The association called on government, Civil Society groups and citizens to prioritize peace building initiatives while also engaging in constructive dialogue.
Amb. Lawal stressed the need for small acts of kindness which he said contributes to a larger picture of peace.
He said the theme of this year's Peace Day "actions for peace: our ambition for the #globalgoals" reminds everyone of the crucial role each individual plays in fostering a peaceful society especially in Nigeria where diversity in cultures and voices exist. "We call on all Nigerians to join hands in promoting dialogue and collaborations especially considering our diverse cultures and languages.
The statement emphasized the importance of education in promoting global peace. " We understand the importance of education in the pursuit of global and regional peace hence the decision of our association to kickstart the School Peace Awareness Programme aimed at bringing the message of peace to schools within the FCT which are easily prone to the influence of cultism and other vices"
