Subject: Advisory Memo on Your Resumption as Executive Governor of Rivers State: A Call for Caution, Unity, and Strategic Leadership
Your Excellency,
I write you this letter with utmost respect and heartfelt congratulations on your formal resumption to executive office as the democratically elected Governor of Rivers State, following the conclusion of the six-month emergency administration that commenced on March 18, 2025 under a federal proclamation.
This moment is both historic and sensitive, a political re-entry after a turbulent chapter that challenged the very fabric of democratic governance in Rivers State.
It is, therefore, in the spirit of patriotism, peacebuilding, and institutional renewal that I offer this humble advisory.
1. Lead with Wisdom, Govern with Restraint. The months ahead demand a posture of strategic patience and emotional intelligence. Political wounds are still fresh, tempers still high, and enemies, both known and unknown, may yet linger within institutions and power structures. Your Excellency, resist the temptation to retaliate or pursue political vendettas. While justice is necessary, it must never become a cloak for bitterness. The people are watching to see whether your return will restore dignity or reopen divisions.
2. Rebuild the Soul of Rivers State. The emergency rule, regardless of intent, interrupted the social contract between your administration and the people. Now is the time to rebuild trust, reconnect with the grassroots, and restore faith in democracy.
Please prioritize:
Transparent governance
Stakeholder dialogue across political lines
Peacebuilding within local government structures Youth and women empowerment programs Reconnection with traditional institutions and civil society
3. Tread Carefully in Party Politics. Your political party may not always speak with one voice, and history reminds us that internal betrayal often hurts more than external opposition. Be discerning. Know your true allies. Avoid the traps of loyalty politics that led to previous frictions. Let your loyalty be first to your oath of office, then to the constitution, and finally to your conscience. Your political maturity will be judged not by your fights, but by your capacity to outmaneuver crises without burning bridges.
4. Re-engage the Federal Government with Diplomacy. Regardless of the past, you remain a federating partner in the Nigerian project. Tensions between your administration and the federal government can only be resolved through strategic engagement, not defiance or isolation. Seek dialogue, not confrontation. Assert your constitutional rights, but do so with wisdom. Let Rivers State be known not only for its resources and resilience, but for its governor’s maturity in national leadership.
5. Be the Peace and Stability You Desire. History has gifted you a second chance, a rare opportunity to not only govern, but to lead with legacy in mind. I urge you to set a different tone. Let Rivers State become an example of reconciliation, institutional strength, and political rebirth. Your actions now will determine not just your survival, but your statesmanship.

Your Excellency, the events that unfolded in Rivers State over the last six months were not merely local, they were national and even international in implication. As you resume, the Nigerian people expect not just leadership, but healing.
As a UN Peace Ambassador and concerned Nigerian, I offer you my prayers, goodwill, and support. May your second chapter in office be marked by wisdom, courage, and unity.
