The recent Local Government Election in Rivers State has been hailed as a success, with election observer Ambassador Dr. Isaac Christian commending the people of Rivers State for their peaceful conduct during the polls. As a member of the "Vote Count" campaign organization, Ambassador Dr. Christian noted that the election outcome reflected the genuine wishes of the electorate.
In an interview with newsmen, Ambassador Dr. Christian expressed satisfaction with the peaceful atmosphere that characterized the election, a departure from the violence that often accompanies such exercises in the state. He attributed this success to the effective organization and timely distribution of materials by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).
Ambassador Dr. Christian specifically praised RSIEC for ensuring the smooth conduct of the election, noting that materials were distributed on time in his area of coverage, particularly in Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas. He urged the commission to sustain this tempo in future elections, emphasizing that such an approach would guarantee peace in the state
He also advised the newly elected council chairmen and their councillors have a responsibility to carry opposition parties along in their governance, ensuring that their victories benefit all residents, not just their party members. This is crucial in building trust and fostering development in the state.
Meanwhile Ambassador Dr. Isaac Christian has advised the presidential candidate of the labour party in the 2027 election, Mr Peter Obi to shelve his ambition for now.
He said though Mr Obi could be the choice of Nigerian youths, but he can not win because of not being free with money.
According to him, people are hungry and want some one who will reach out to them.
