Rivers Elders Forum Commends Wike, Fubara for Embracing Peace

PORT HARCOURT - The Rivers Elders and Leaders Forum has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State for embracing peace and reconciliation.

In a press statement signed by the Acting Chairman of the Forum, Alabo Dr. Gabriel Toby, the Forum thanked God Almighty for the recent show of maturity and courage demonstrated by both men.

The Forum also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his role in steering the peace process.

The statement read, "We thank God Almighty and commend the recent show of maturity and courage demonstrated by both men in embracing the peace and reconciliation process."

The Forum requested that the State of Emergency imposed on Rivers State be lifted and all suspended democratic structures fully restored, now that peace and reconciliation have been achieved.

"We request that the State of Emergency imposed on Rivers State be lifted and all suspended democratic structures fully restored," the statement added.

The Forum hopes that the terms of reconciliation are well-rooted within the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended) and the rule of law.

"We urge everyone in Rivers State to seize this moment of reconciliation and work towards a new chapter marked by mutual respect, collective responsibility, and unwavering commitment to peace, progress, and unity," the statement concluded.
