Abuja, Nigeria – In recognition of her outstanding contributions to women's economic empowerment, Ambassador Dr. Nissi Ikenna-Amadi, Founder and Executive Director of the African Women Mentoring and Inspiring Initiative (AWMII), has been honored by the British High Commission.
The recognition celebrates Dr. Ikenna-Amadi’s impactful mentorship under the Supporting Women’s Economic Empowerment through Affirmative Procurement Program (SWEEAP), implemented in collaboration with Do Take Action Initiative and Chevening Alumni Nigeria.
The SWEEAP program promotes Gender Responsive Affirmative Procurement, an approach designed to ensure that women-owned businesses are intentionally positioned to access and benefit from public procurement opportunities. Through targeted mentorship, training, and strategic guidance, the initiative equips women entrepreneurs with the capacity to compete and succeed in government and institutional contracting.
Since its inception, the program has recorded remarkable success, supporting numerous women-owned businesses to strengthen their competitiveness and expand their participation in procurement systems traditionally dominated by larger enterprises.
Speaking on the recognition, Dr. Ikenna-Amadi expressed her appreciation, stating:
"This recognition is not just about my work or the work of AWMII; it reflects the resilience, strength, and determination of African women. Our mission remains clear—to continue creating pathways that enable women to thrive in leadership, entrepreneurship, and economic participation."
